DELEGATE McINTOSH TO CHAIR COORDINATED
CAMPAIGN
After Successful Legislative Session, Will Get
Head Start on 2010 Elections
ANNAPOLIS, MD (Thursday, April 16, 2009) –
Governor Martin O'Malley today announced that
Delegate Maggie McIntosh (43rd District) will
chair the coordinated campaign of the Maryland
Democratic Party. Prior to serving in the
House of Delegates, McIntosh served as state
director and campaign manager for U.S. Senator
Barbara A. Mikulski.
"Delegate Maggie McIntosh is an outstanding
legislative leader who helped us successfully
protect K-12 education, maintain the tuition
freeze for the fourth straight year, protect
the environment and put Maryland's children and
families first," Governor O'Malley said.
"Maggie will bring the same leadership and
effectiveness to serving our state as chair of
the Maryland Democratic Party's coordinated
campaign, which will help Democrats continue to
win and build on the 2008 victories of
President Obama and our other Democratic
winners."
Governor O'Malley and Senator Mikulski will
lead the top-of-the-ticket for Democrats in the
2010 elections. All seven Democratic members
of Maryland's Congressional delegation will
also be on the ballot, as will other statewide
constitutional offices, state senators and
delegates. McIntosh will oversee the strategic
planning and execution of the State Party's
coordinated campaign next year.
"Maggie McIntosh is an outstanding choice. She
brings experience in running state-wide
campaigns, political savvy and a real knack for
building coalitions and holding them together.
She also knows old fashioned grassroots and new
fashioned technology. Governor O'Malley has
made a great pick. I look forward to working
with her for victory in 2010," Senator Mikulski
said.
Delegate McIntosh has served in Maryland's
House of Delegates since 1992. In 2001, she
was appointed House Majority Leader, the first
women ever to serve in this post. In addition
to being named one of Maryland's Top 100 Women,
Delegate McIntosh has been honored by the
Women's Law Center and awarded the Dorothy
Beatty Memorial Service Award for her work on
behalf of expanding the legal rights and
protections for all women and their families.
On Monday, Governor O'Malley, Delegate McIntosh
and the Democratic members of the Maryland
Senate and House of Delegates completed a
successful General Assembly session that put
Families First. Notable victories include
record funding for K-12 education and a fourth
straight year without tuition increases at
Maryland's public colleges and universities. In
addition, Democrats protected the safety net
for working families who have been hit hardest
by the national economic downturn by expanding
unemployment benefits to part-time employees,
strengthening mortgage lending regulations and
cracking down on unequal pay for women.
